Pulled from the packs - Episode 02

And here we have the A-3 card from the SkyBox 1998 set of "Star Trek: Insurrection" Widescreen cards, signed by none other than Brent Spiner as Lieutenant Commander Data. I've met Brent on a few occasions, and he's always been great fun.

Pulled from the packs - Episode 01

I'm gonna throw in some other autographs along the way, things I didn't necessarily get by mail or meeting. I've got a couple of buddies that I've traded with over the years, as well as buying hundreds if not thousands of packs of cards. Our first entry is this little gem from the Rittenhouse 2001 collection of Star Trek - the 35th Anniversary.

Booker Bradshaw played Dr. M'Benga in the classic series episode "That Which Survives."

Kate Twa, Gender Changer to FBI Agent

So, man (this man) can not live by Trek alone. I was/am also big into the X-Files. I wrote to Ms. Twa in February of 1999 and sent her 2 X-Files cards, one from where she was the female half of Brother Martin, the Rogue Kindered from "Genderbender". The other was from when she jumped to the other side of the shield as Det. Kelly Ryan in "Soft Light". She was very nice, and even autographed a few extra cards that I gave to some friends.

majQa' Marc Okrand

Back in 1994, after reading a cool article about the Klingon language, decide it was time to track down Marc Okrand. I wrote to him, and sent a few Klingon cards, a copy of the Klingon Dictionary and the article from People. Low and behold, in March 1995, I received my stuff back, signed. He also included a quick note, which  I thought that was very cool. Great guy, and an awesome addition!

Professor Farouk El-Baz, Shuttlecraft

On January 11, 1995, I wrote a letter to Professor Farouk El-Baz at Boston University's Center for Remote Sensing. I had earlier read an article about the good doctor in OMNI magazine and was excited to hear about his research. More than that, I was sure he was the namesake for the shuttlecraft in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Time Squared." You can imagine how excited I was to receive a letter back from him, handwritten, as well as copies of articles about his life, singed cards and the cool picture from OMNI. In the letter he wrote that he had kept a couple of cards for himself, as he had never seen them. This tickled me to no end, so I gathered up as many as I could get my hands on and sent them to him. This has been one of my prize possessions since.

Welcome!

Greetings and felicitations, ALL! And welcome, to "Letters from my Trek", a new blog about the cool stuff I've gotten over the years in the mail. And maybe in person, too.

I have decided to do something a little different with this blog that I do over at my other site. All the posts here will be about things I've gotten autographed, or gifts and other cool things I've received over the 20+ years of collecting Star Trek and other autographs.

In the late 80's and throughout the 90's I wrote a TON of letters, sent figures, cards, comics and other goodies to people all over. This will be a catalog into those, as well as stories from our Convention trips.

I hope you enjoy...
